Iran regime’s defiance increases tensions with Israel

Image
By Dr. Majid Rafizadeh Rising tensions between the Iranian regime and Israel have the potential to spiral into a wider conflict if not adequately addressed. There are several reasons for the heightened tensions. First of all, although the Iranian regime attempts to distract attention from the direct involvement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria, Tehran continues to increase its military influence there and use its proxies against Israeli targets. Israel last month carried out an airstrike in Syria on a location where Iranian officials were meeting. Iranian leaders were reportedly meeting to discuss developments regarding their country’s drone and ballistic missile capabilities in Syria. The attack occurred on the same day that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed the Iranian government for an attack on a vessel owned by an Israeli in the Arabian Gulf. He said: “Last week, Iran attacked an oil tanker … and harmed the international freedom of navigation....

Unbridled inflation becomes unbearable for Iran’s people

Image
Author: Shamsi Saadati Prior to the inauguration of  Ebrahim Raisi  as president the regime in Iran was spreading propaganda about how the economic situation will change, and how the welfare and livelihood of the people will improve. However, statistics show that not only has there been no improvement in the economy and/or living conditions of Iranian households since Raisi took office, many essential items have actually become even more expensive. There is no doubt that the regime needed widespread propaganda when it decided to establish a government run by hardliners. Subsequently, with some reforms, they instilled in the public the belief that the living conditions of Iranian families will change with the new government. Yet when it comes to people's livelihoods, Raisi’s cabinet not only has nothing to say, but the high cost of many basic items has left people in despair. Less than two months has passed since the formation of Raisi’s government, a cabinet that co...

Tehran’s Spy Arrested in Sweden: A Grim Reminder of Rooted Terrorism in Europe

Image
Written by Mahmoud Hakamian Swedish newspapers, including Aftonbladet and Expressen, reported that a former Swedish security police chief had been arrested for spying on behalf of the Iranian regime between 2011 and 2015. His arrest once again highlights the need for a joint-European action to address the Iranian regime’s terrorism. As identified by local and Persian language websites, the arrested spy is Peyman Kia, 40 years old. He had obtained Swedish citizenship and worked as a director in the Swedish Security Police (SPO) and an analyst in a Swedish military organization while he was spying for Tehran. Kia was arrested on Monday. On Thursday, the court decided to order detention for this person on charges of grossly and unlawfully abusing his position as someone with access to classified information and violating national security to avoid him destroying documents or escaping. The arrested person is accused of espionage for reasonable reasons, the Swedish Security Service sai...

Raisi’s Address a Disgraceful Stain on UN Reputation

Image
On Tuesday, the Iranian regime’s president,  Ebrahim Raisi , made his international debut by delivering a virulent virtual speech to the United Nations General Assembly. He characterized US sanctions on the regime, which were instated for its nuclear adventurism, as “oppressive.” And, he opined that “the United States’ hegemonic system has no credibility.” Such remarks carry no serious weight, obviously. But they do demonstrate an emboldened attitude on the part of Tehran after the West’s, and particularly Europe’s, failure to adopt a decisive policy vis-à-vis Tehran’s rogue behavior. The Iranian people frequently ridicule the mullahs for their unmatched shamelessness and outrageous remarks. At no point was this impudence clearer than when Raisi claimed that the US sanctions against the theocracy were “crimes against humanity.” That is certainly rich coming from a figure lambasted by the Iranian people and global human rights organizations as a crime against humanity for his...

Struan Stevenson: Hold Iran’s Raisi to Account For His Role in 1988 Massacre

Image
Written by Mahmoud Hakamian On Tuesday, the Iranian diaspora in Sweden hosted an International Conference about the  1988 massacre  of 30,000 political prisoners. This event was attended by dozens of eyewitnesses of the Iranian regime’s president,  Ebrahim Raisi  role in the 1988 massacre. Several prominent European politicians attended this event and reiterated the calls for holding Raisi and the entire regime to account for his role in the 1988 massacre. One of these prominent figures was Mr. Struan Stevenson, a former Member of the European Parliament. “The UN Security Council must now facilitate the prosecution of Ebrahim Raisi and other officials responsible for decades of atrocities and human rights violations, particularly the genocidal massacre of political prisoners in 1988,” Mr. Stevenson said. The following is the full text of his speech at the conference in Stockholm. Mr. Stevenson’s Speech: Later today, a criminal guilty of genocide and crimes agai...

Taliban's windfall from U.S. withdrawal: $83B in weapons

Image
By Struan Stevenson Sept. 20 (UPI) — Many pundits believe U.S. President  Joe Biden ‘s hasty withdrawal from  Afghanistan  marked the biggest military defeat in American history. Biden’s decision to end the “forever war” has certainly handed a windfall to the Taliban and their al-Qaida allies. The United States left behind $83 billion worth of weapons, including around 208 aircraft, 2,000 armored vehicles, 600,000 small arms, 32,000 grenades, mortars, rockets and bombs and 30 million rounds of ammunition. Experts from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps have flooded into Afghanistan, examining the hardware and marking the items they want sent back to Tehran. A convoy of trucks carrying captured American military vehicles has been seen crossing the border to Iran. In due course, the most sophisticated U.S. weaponry will be reverse-engineered and sold to  Bashar al-Assad  in Syria, the Houthi rebels in Yemen, the vicious Shi’ia militias in Iraq,  H...

Iran: Ignore Ebrahim Raisi’s Hate Speech, Plan For His Arrest

Image
Written by Mansoureh Galestan The Iranian regime’s new president  Ebrahim Raisi  is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. Simultaneously, Iranian expatriates and activists in Sweden will be hosting a conference to discuss Raisi’s history of support for terrorism and human rights abuses. The international community can either listen to what this criminal has to say for himself, or it can listen to the voices of those who have been affected by his actions in the past. Raisi and his administration will oversee an upsurge in most of the regime’s malign activities. While a mere commitment to destructive politics is perhaps no grounds for barring Raisi from addressing the international community, the actual details of his record should have made him persona non grata among the democratic nations of the world since before he was appointed president. Those details include, but are not limited to, his high-level participation in the 1988 massacre of...

Iran: The End for Mullahs in Sight

Image
Written by Dr. Saeid Sajadi Iran’s mullahs have taken full advantage of many events, including the Iran-Iraq war, the 1991 gulf war, the 2003 Iraq war, and the  COVID pandemic , to prolong their criminal rule. Today, however, the regime has reached a dead-end on all strategic fronts. The regime is confronted with a crisis of legitimacy, a contracting power structure, an economy in shambles, a population yearning for freedom through uprisings, and last but not least, a vast network of rebellious resistance units targeting the regime’s manifestations of power at every opportunity. It’s crucial to recognize that the uprisings of December 2017 and  November 2019  were different from previous uprisings for several reasons: (a) the radicalism of their slogans and demands, (b) the primary involvement of the lower socio-economic sector of society- erroneously considered as the base to the regime in the past, (c) the mind-boggling speed of their spread to hundreds of towns a...
