Iran regime’s defiance increases tensions with Israel

There are several reasons for the heightened tensions. First of all, although the Iranian regime attempts to distract attention from the direct involvement of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria, Tehran continues to increase its military influence there and use its proxies against Israeli targets. Israel last month carried out an airstrike in Syria on a location where Iranian officials were meeting. Iranian leaders were reportedly meeting to discuss developments regarding their country’s drone and ballistic missile capabilities in Syria. The attack occurred on the same day that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed the Iranian government for an attack on a vessel owned by an Israeli in the Arabian Gulf. Human rights center of “No to Prison- No to Execution” reported on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, that according to credible reports received from Mashahd Vakil Abad Prison, the conditions there are disastrous.

According to reliable reports from Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad, the condition of this prison is catastrophic.

The food quality is so bad that prisoners, despite starvation, discard the food that the prison gives because it is not edible.



Fruits are also out of reach. A kilo of watermelon is sold for 50,000 tomans and one kilo of apples equivalents to 45,000 tomans. Prisoners cannot afford to buy any fruit in a month.

Health care is also much worse. Prison guards do not provide prisoners with even minimum sanitary facilities though the coronavirus is particularly rampant in Mashhad, so the prisoners are forced to use water and dish washing liquid to disinfect their wards and other equipment.

Prisoners with severe illnesses, when they go to the prison infirmary, are just given a few painkillers. They tell the sick if you want to take care of yourself and go to the hospitals outside, pay for it yourself.

Even those who want to buy the right shoes with their own money, to prevent the progress of their feet and knee problems, the guards tell them if you have pain, don’t walk. If the prisoner protests, he faces the threat of the guards that if you talk, we will send you to a ward where you have to sleep in the bathroom.

The situation in Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad is so chaotic that it directs prisoners to use psychoactive drugs. The government distributes methadone for free, providing conditions for prisoners’ addiction. For example, at least 3,000 prisoners receive methadone per day. Drugs are also found in the prison, and the main elements of drug distribution are the prison authorities, who make huge profits of this.

In Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad, drug is free, but going to a library or gym is applicable to many conditions and rules. In Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad, prisoners have no rights. They can neither have a request, nor have the right to protest. They are sentenced to gradual death under the above conditions.

In this prison, Ward 5 is allocated for defendants of common crimes. The capacity of this ward is 200 persons, but more than 800 people are currently confined there. Prisoners are forced to use the restrooms to sleep at night.

Ward 5 of Vakil Abad Prison in Mashhad is known as the “End of the World”. Most of the prisoners in this ward suffer from severe psychological pressures and there is a possibility of prisoners fighting each other at any moment. There is no such thing as prisoner safety in this ward. Prisoners are commonly raped, and prison guards use this dirty and inhumane method to punish and torture prisoners.

The inmates confined at Vakil Abad Prison call for international human rights organizations to visit this hellish prison to find out about the tragedies that are taking place in it.
